The Edinburgh Marathon takes place every year in Edinburgh, Scotland, usually in the month of May. The course begins in the city center at Potterow, then moves out of Edinburgh into East Lothian, finishing at Pinkie Playing Fields, Musselburgh. The part that goes along the coast has the most breathtaking view , and definitely a runners' favorite. The Edinburgh Marathon has IAAF Bronze Label status and is managed by Scottish Athletics. More than 24,000 runners take part in this event.
The first marathon was held in Edinburgh in 1982. It started in Holyrood Park and ended in Meadowbank Stadium. In 2011 the Edinburgh Marathon Festival was hosted over two days with an introduction of a 5K, 10K, two junior races and a half marathon.
Edinburgh course was voted as the fastest marathon in the UK by Runners World, a perfect choice to try out your first ever marathon race! The Edinburgh Marathon is the second largest marathon in the United Kingdom, only being surpassed by the one in London.
