The Braemar Gathering is maybe the most famous event from the Highland Games circuit. The Gathering takes place every year on the first Saturday of September and attracts crowds from all corners of the world. Moreover, there are also a couple of guests attending the Gathering, most notable among them are the members of the Royal family.
Her Majesty the Queen is patron of the Braemar Games and each year she comes to the small village of Braemar to cheer the participants as they demonstrate their prowess. An echoing sound of pipe bands marks the start of the games.
Enjoy the tremendous atmosphere; take pictures of the colourful tartans and cheer up the participants as they ‘toss the caber’, ‘put the stone’ and ‘throw the hammer’. Other fun events include the children’s sack race and the tug of war competition. At the end of the games, the Queen presents the cups and shields.
