The Cowal Highland Gathering is an opportunity to learn more about Scottish culture by observing traditional dancing to Scottish music played on the hornpipe. Both female and male performers wear checked kilts considered a canonic element of Scottish national garb. The Cowal Highland Gathering is actually a dancing competition held annually in Dunoon over a few days in late August.
