The Brussels Airport Marathon is a yearly event and one of Belgium's prominent sports spectacles. Drawing over 10,000 runners from across the globe, it transforms Brussels into a bustling hub of athleticism and excitement. The route offers picturesque views as participants traverse past the city's main landmarks and attractions.
Route
The marathon and half marathon commence at Place De Brouckère. As the starting gun echoes, marathon runners embark through the Annie Cordy Tunnel towards the majestic Basilica of Koekelberg. They then traverse the lush greenery encompassing Brussels, including the Ganshoren marsh and various parks in Jette.
Following a scenic route over the track of the King Baudouin Stadium and past the Atomium, the marathon continues with a captivating journey past iconic monuments such as the Church of Our Lady of Laeken, the Castle of Laeken, etc. From the Heysel plateau, runners are treated to breathtaking panoramic views.
Participants of the Brussels Airport Half Marathon head directly to Heysel Plateau and Laeken Park via the Canal Zone, joining the marathon route's second part.
The grand finale features a magnificent ascent along the iconic Avenue Lambermont. Passing through Cinquantenaire Park and Rue de la Loi, the route culminates at the majestic Place des Palais, just in front of the Royal Palace.
7K Race & Persil Kids Run
In addition to the Brussels Airport Marathon & Half Marathon, two other distances are available: the Brussels Airport 7K and the Persil Kids Run 1K. The 7K race begins on Rue de la Loi, next to the Federal Parliament. Participants will traverse scenic routes through Cinquantenaire Park and Montgomery Square before reaching the finish line at Place des Palais. The Persil Kids Run starts and finishes at the Place des Palais, offering young runners a memorable experience.
Participation
The Brussels Marathon debuted in 2004, and since then, it has steadily grown in popularity, drawing larger crowds each year. Runners interested in participating in the race are required to pay a registration fee, ranging from €20 to €107, depending on the chosen distance. For the Persil Kids Run, the fee is €5 for pre-registration and €8 for registrations on the day. Registered participants will receive a confirmation email, including their personalized number or e-ticket, at least one week before the event.
