History

The history of the Ball of Industry and Technology dates back more than 170 years to the activities of the Techniker-Kränzchen Committee, first documented in 1842. At that time, the net proceeds were used to support deserving students at the Imperial and Royal Polytechnic Institute in Vienna, now the Vienna University of Technology. Today, the event maintains this tradition, with funds continuing to benefit the university’s research and teaching initiatives.

In 1931, the event was renamed the Ball of Technology and Industry to reflect greater collaboration with industrial sectors. Twenty years later, in 1951, it adopted its current title, the Ball of Industry and Technology, embodying its evolving mission and expanding scope.
