Madrid en Danza International Dance Festival 2024

Madrid en Danza Festival turns the city into a real dance capital for over three weeks every year

Dates: May 9–26, 2024

Spaniards cannot imagine their life without music, so this big dance festival is considered one of the year's most important events. Once again, the organizers of the Madrid en Danza Festival plan to show the public how diverse and unpredictable a dance can be. Unlike most similar events, this festival does not limit itself to any specific kind of dance. Here you can see classical ballet, avant-garde plastic theatre, or ethnic dances from flamenco to Japanese "Buto."

Festival Performers

The festival participants include famous dancers and choreographers as well as beginning performers who are still trying to secure their spot on the international scene. Among this year's acts, you'll have a chance to witness breathtaking dances of Ballet National de Marseille, Richard Mascherin, Paula Quintana, LASALA, Stephanie Lake Company, Mucha Muchacha, and many others. Ballet Nacional de España will also present their take on contemporary Spanish dance.

Puerta del Sol Dance Event (May 11, 2024)

If you got inspired watching the movements of skilled dancers on the stage, feel free to take a shot at dancing yourself at the Puerta del Sol. The square transforms into a spacious dance floor, with numerous workshops and classes taking place right on the street. The passerbys have a chance to learn the basics of flamenco, ballroom dancing, contemporary dance, and more. The event is completely free and open to the public—you just need to move your feet and feel the music!

International Choreographic Exhibition (May 13-14, 2024)

Hosted by BETA PÚBLICA, the exhibition consists of short choreographic pieces produced by international and Spanish choreographers. All the performances are of the same genre, contemporary dance, and promote experimenting and sharing your innovative approaches to dancing. The show will take place at the Padrillo Theater at 7 pm and requires a ticket for admission.

Schedule & Location

The grand dance event takes place annually in May and June. Performances are held in various theatres and cultural centers of Madrid, in particular in Teatros del Canal, Centro Cultural Paco Rabal, Teatro Pradillo, and Puerta del Sol. The festival isn't limited just to the city Madrid; other locations include municipalities in the Madrid community, like Real Coliseo Carlos III in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Teatro Municipal Francisco Rabal in Pinto, and Teatro Auditorio Ciudad de Alcobendas in Alcobendas. The performances usually begin between the hours of 6:30 pm and 8:45 pm and last one or two hours.

The ticket pricing varies depending on the venue. Tickets for the performances at Teatros del Canal range between €9 and €25, with the average ticket priced at €15. To attend concerts at Teatro Pradillo, you need to pay €10. Admission at other venues generally ranges between €5 and €10.
