Across the United States, Memorial Day Weekend brings together people for a variety of events with the sole purpose of honoring the fallen American soldiers who gave their lives for the faith of peace. The city of Charlotte in North Carolina is also dedicated and inspired to follow this tradition and join in honoring the fallen soldiers.
During these days, several events take place in the city, which make it possible to fulfill this duty in different ways. Charlotte has sporting events and family gatherings for picnics, and the centerpiece of Memorial Day Weekend is the Circle K Speed Street Coca-Cola 600 Festival. Coca-Cola 600 festivities include military appreciation activities and performances and give a sense of unity on these important and awe-inspiring days.
Memorial Day Celebration at the Whitewater Center (late May 2024)
Kick off the holiday weekend with a Saturday morning race along the Whitewater Center’s trail system, complemented by various outdoor activities and yoga sessions. The morning race is divided into two routes—5 and 8-mile options—and starts at 8 am. Participants can choose the best option for themselves, considering their training.
If you are not a fan of this type of recreation, you can always join SUP Yoga on top of stand-up paddle boards, enjoying the freshness and tranquility of the Catawba River. Space for SUP Yoga is limited, and advance registration is necessary. At the Whitewater Center visitors can also join up for outdoor yoga sessions throughout the day.
At the end of the saturated and active day, guests can experience the joy of live music, concluding with a spectacular fireworks show on Sunday evening.
Circle K Speed Street (May 24–26, 2024)
Circle K Speed Street Coca-Cola 600 Festival is a great family-friendly event hosted by Charlotte Motor Speedway, Concord, during Memorial Day Weekend. This event offers an opportunity to feel unity and feverishness around NASCAR, with live performances, exhibits, and meet-and-greets with racing legends. Coca-Cola 600 (NCS) will run on May 26 and will be a great end to the weekend.
The Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR Cup Series starts at 6 pm on Sunday. Visitors can buy tickets online for each day of Circle K Speed Street: Friday Tickets cost $20-25, Saturday Tickets cost $25-35, and Sunday Tickets can buy from $59 to $561.
