Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum Celebration (May 27, 2024)

Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum Celebration is an annual event, taking place during Memorial Day Weekend from 11 am to 3:30 pm. This museum is the largest memorial in the country, dedicated to honoring military veterans and service personnel. The annual celebrations features entertainment for all ages, like crafts, face painting, and a bouncy house. Other highlights include a concert of patriotic music, museum tours, contests, food and drink concessions. At 3 pm, guests gather for the National Moment of Remembrance to pause and pay tribute to the veterans who have gave their lives for freedom. The event offers free admission and free parking.

Submarine Veterans Memorial Day Ceremony (May 2024)

USS Requin is a truly unique place for a Memorial Day Celebration! Decommissioned on 3 December 1968, the submarine is the only US Navy ship to be named after the requin (shark in French). The Submarine Veterans Memorial Day Ceremony is the annual popular event, which take place at the USS Requin, located at Carnegie Science Center. The ceremony usually features several submarine veterans, a 21-gun salute by the Marine Color Guard from Three Rivers Leatherneck Detachment 310 and the VFW Post 9199 Honor Guard, casting of flower petals, and tolling of a bell to honor the memory of those who served. The event, which starts at 10 am, is free for the public. It's also possible to watch the ceremony from the Ohio river trail next to the submarine. After the ceremony, visitors can tour the Cold-era submarine to learn what life on board was like for the crew.

Red, Wild & Blue Parade at Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium (May 27, 2024)

The annual Red, Wild & Blue Parade at Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium is the best way to celebrate the official start of summer with kids. The parade starts at 11 am, going from the Forest Passage to the Kids Kingdom patio, along the zoo path. The highlights include special contests, meet-and-greets with various characters, and special enrichment for different animals. The event is included in admission ticket on that day.

Lawrenceville Memorial Day Parade (May 27, 2024)

Located northeast of Pittsburgh, Lawrenceville hosts the largest Memorial Day Parade in the area. The procession starts at 10 am at 36th and Butler Street. The parade features 65 entries: community groups, marching bands and veterans organizations. The poignant procession goes down Butler Street to the Allegheny Cemetery's Soldier’s Memorial, the resting place for 15,000 veterans. The special military memorial service is held at the cemetery after the parade. The community can also enjoy free entertainment, food trucks, face painting, a classic car show and music.

Hookstown Grange Annual Memorial Day Car Cruise (May 27, 2024)

Hookstown Grange Annual Memorial Day Car Cruise is the annual community festival held at Hookstown Fairgrounds at 1198 State Route 168 Hookstown PA, from noon to 3 pm. The Memorial Day parade is usually held prior to the event at 10:30 am. The celebration features a raffle and food trucks. The car show is open to all makes and models, including motorcycles. Admission and parking are free.
