Memorial Day is one of the days when we turn all thoughts and words of gratitude to the men and women who gave their lives for freedom, peace, and democracy. It is also a long weekend that can be spent with friends and family at various events or at a picnic in the park.
Tampa typically hosts several events and activities to honor and remember fallen soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines, such as The American Legion “U.S.S. Tampa” Post 5 Memorial Day Service, Memorial Day Military Offer at The Florida Aquarium, 25th Annual Memorial Day Remembrance in Tampa, and Tampa CRISP Memorial Day Ceremony.
The American Legion “U.S.S. Tampa” Post 5 Memorial Day Service (May 27, 2024)
Since 1922, The American Legion Cemetery Corporation "U.S.S. Tampa" Post 5 has observed Memorial Day in Tampa's only veterans cemetery. During the Luminary observance at Veterans Cemetery friends and family are invited to attend with candles in the evening. There will be a moment of silence at the cemetery after sunset. Without an official ceremony or service, the Luminaries will be left on display throughout the night for visitors to view.
The Memorial Day observance usually begins at 11:00 am at the American Legion, "U.S.S. Tampa" Post 5. The raising of the flags to full staff takes place at the closing of the ceremony. People of all ages can participate in the event in remembrance of our military's sacrifices.
Annual Memorial Day Remembrance in Tampa (late May, 2024)
The James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital annually hosts the Annual Memorial Day Remembrance in Tampa at Veterans Memorial Park. The event commemorates the brave soldiers who gave their lives for freedom and peace. The ceremony features invited military personnel and veterans who honor the memory of fallen men and women.
CRISP Memorial Day Ceremony (late May, 2024)
Locals and guests can join the CRISP Memorial Day Ceremony at MacDill Park, along the scenic Riverwalk in downtown Tampa Bay. The event starts at the solemn Gold Star Families Memorial Monument and honors fallen soldiers' patriotism, selfless service, and freedom-loving.
Memorial Day Military Offer at The Florida Aquarium (late May, 2024)
At Memorial Day Weekend, The Florida Aquarium says thanks to soldiers who serve our country. When buying one ticket, a military serviceman receives another complimentary ticket as a gift. For this, the serviceman must personally purchase a ticket at the ticket window at The Florida Aquarium.
The offer is available to individuals currently serving, veterans, retirees, or reservists who are actively participating in drills, as well as National Guard members or those who have been honorably or medically discharged from military service. A valid U.S. Military ID or DD Form 214 is required.
