Elm Grove Memorial Day Parade History
Elm Grove Memorial Day Parade has almost century-old roots. For the first Memorial Day Flag Ceremony in 1947, a troop marched from the Legion to the flag at St. Mary's. At the time, local kids rode on their bikes after them. The kids showed up on their bikes once again for the Legion's second celebration the following year. 1949 saw the revival of the event at St. Mary's, and in 1950, the Legion decided to include children's activities in addition to the parade. Since then, the American Legion's long-standing custom has continued to be a major cornerstone in the neighbourhood.
Elm Grove Memorial Day Parade route & time
The Memorial Day parade is organized to remember those who have served their country in the American armed forces. During this march, you'll see veteran groups, military units, community groups, and, of course, patriotic displays, focused on the Memorial Day theme. There will also be flag presentations, decorated floats, patriotic decorations, and maybe memorial speeches or ceremonies for the deceased troops. The drop-off point for the parade is at Elm Grove Park while the parade's drop-off time is from 8:45 am to 9:15 am. The route is pretty long: the launchpad for the parade is Elm Grove Village Park, and the marching ends at the corner of Elm Grove Road and Wall Street. If you don't feel like joining the parade as a participant and only want to spectate it, be ready to do so at 10:30 am.
