Occasions that create never-to-be-forgotten emotions on Memorial Day Weekend

The fluttering of red, white, and blue colors, gratitude and respect in the hearts, shared picnics, barbecues with family and friends, events, and gatherings—all this takes place during Memorial Day Weekend in Franklin, Tennessee. It's a time to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy and express gratitude to those, who paid the ultimate price to defend them.

If you want to spend this day on a picnic with delicious food and in the company of family and friends, you can visit Aspen Grove Park, Crockett Park, or Natchez Trace Parkway. However, locals and guests can also attend events in Franklin or nearby, such as the Williamson County Memorial Day Service, the Flag Retirement Ceremony at the Healing Field, or the Tennessee Renaissance Festival.

Williamson County Memorial Day Service (late May)

The Annual Williamson County Memorial Day Ceremony takes place at Veterans' Memorial Park (Five Points in downtown Franklin). The program usually lasts up to 45 minutes. Locals and visitors attend the memorial service to pay respects and thank fallen soldiers for their service to the country.

Flag Retirement Ceremony at the Healing Field (late May)

500 United States flags create a patriotic panorama of red, white, and blue at the First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro throughout Memorial Day Weekend. Each flag is dedicated to a certain person and tells a story. The display, located 33 miles (53 km) away from Franklin, has free admission, so everyone can come and silently thank the fallen soldiers for their service and protection.

Tennessee Renaissance Festival (May 4–27, 2024)

The Tennessee Renaissance Festival is a family-friendly event, taking place in Arrington, 10 miles (16 km) away from Franklin, during four weekends in May. Jousts, comedy, live music, magic shows, and other events and activities will entertain festival guests. The young and the old can also test themselves in games of skill or crafts. Tennessee Renaissance Festival runs from 10 am to 6 pm on Saturdays, Sundays, and on Memorial Day Monday.
