St. Patrick's Day Parade 2024

One of the US' largest celebrations, honoring the Irish patron saint

Nearly 14% of the Burgh's population has Irish origins. Along with the other passionate Pittsburghers, the Irish community annually throws a top-notch bash on St. Patrick's Day. The main highlight is Pittsburgh St. Patrick's Day Parade that features more than 200 marching units, including bands and floats. Altogether, the parade counts 20,000 participants. Besides, it draws from 200,000 to 350,000 participants, making this march one of the largest of its kind in the USA.

Time & route

St. Patrick's Day Parade runs in Downtown Pittsburgh. The action starts at 10 am, but folks gather hours beforehand. The 1.4 mi (2.3 km) route begins at the intersection of Liberty and 11th Street, proceeds to Grant Street, turns to the Boulevard of the Allies, and finishes at Stanwix Street near Commonwealth Place. As elsewhere worldwide, the festivities are planned around March 17, except during the pandemic of 2021, when the parade was rescheduled to September.

Other events & activities

In addition to Pittsburgh St. Patrick's Day Parade, the city typically holds a number of smaller events and family-friendly activities. You'll find some St. Patrick's Day parties, brunches, and fairs throughout the city. Each year, the program differs, but you can always check out such pop locations as Fifth Avenue Place or Market Square.

No matter what kind of celebration you prefer, remember to dress appropriately. Find your best green outfits and have fun the Irish way.
