St. Patrick's Day Parade 2025 in Pittsburgh, PA

One of the US' largest celebrations, honoring the Irish patron saint

Dates: March 15, 2025

With nearly one-fifth of the Pittsburgh metropolitan community proudly claiming Irish heritage, it's no surprise that the Steel City hosts one of the nation's largest and most vibrant St. Patrick's Day celebrations. The main highlight is Pittsburgh St. Patrick's Day Parade, which features more than 200 marching units, including bands and floats.

Parade Highlights

The Pittsburgh St. Patrick's Day Parade has been a cherished tradition in the city since the mid-1800s. Over time, it has grown in size and organization, becoming the third-largest St. Patrick's Day parade in the United States. With 20,000 participants, it attracts an impressive crowd of 200,000 to 350,000 visitors annually.

Irish step dancers, marching bands, military groups, and community organizations are among the many participants parading down Grant Street each year on the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day.

Route & Schedule

St. Patrick's Day Parade runs in Downtown Pittsburgh. The action starts at 10 am, but people gather hours beforehand. The 1.4 mi (around 2 km) route begins at the Greyhound Bus Station at Liberty Avenue and 11th Street, with staging stretching up to 26th Street. It follows Liberty Avenue to Grant Street, turns onto the Boulevard of the Allies, and continues to the Reviewing Stand at Stanwix Street before ending at Commonwealth Place. In 2025, festivities are planned for March 15.

Other Events & Activities

Alongside the Pittsburgh St. Patrick's Day Parade, the city hosts a variety of smaller events and family-friendly activities, including lively St. Patrick's Day parties, festive brunches, and local fairs. Each year brings a different program, but popular spots like Fifth Avenue Place and Market Square often feature prominently in the festivities.

The celebrations officially begin with the annual Button Party, a lively evening filled with food, drinks, music, and fun, setting the tone for the week leading up to the parade. This event also supports parade fundraising efforts. The 2025 Annual Button Party is scheduled for March 7, from 5 to 7:30 pm, at The Grand Hall at The Priory.

Whatever celebration you choose to enjoy, remember to embrace the Irish spirit by dressing in your best green attire and soaking up the festive atmosphere.
