Red Bull Ragnarok is the snowkiting festival taking place every April in on the vast plains of the Hardangervidda plateau, Norway. The world's top 200 snowkiters compete and show off their best tricks at the vast, snow-covered plateau that has ideal conditions for a snowkiting mass-start race. The goal of the race is to finish the course in the shortest time. The skiers and snowboarders complete five laps of 15-20 km each.
All the activities outside the race are based in the Ustedalen Resort in Geilo. The venue is about 260 km (160 mi) northwest of Oslo, 330 km (205 mi) northeast of Stavanger, and 220 km (137 mi) east of Bergen.
The competition was named after Ragnarök which, according to Norse mythology, is the final fight between the forces of good and evil and a challenging test for human endurance. Red Bull Ragnarok is aimed to reveal snowkite heroes who will complete the course and win.
Hardangervidda is a mountain plateau in central Norway, one of the most scenic sites in the country. It is the largest plateau of its kind in Europe, covering Buskerud, Hordaland and Telemark counties. Due to the Alpine climate, the place stays cold year-round. It is home to one of Norway's largest glaciers—Hardangerjøkulen.
