Red Bull Ragnarok 2020

The largest snowkiting competition in the world

Dates: March 19–22, 2020 (on hold)

Red Bull Ragnarok is the snowkiting festival taking place every April on the vast plains of the Hardangervidda plateau, Norway. The world's top 200 snowkiters compete and show off their best tricks at the vast, snow-covered plateau that has ideal conditions for a snowkiting mass-start race. The goal of the race is to finish the course in the shortest time. The skiers and snowboarders complete five laps of 9–12 miles (15–20 km) each.

Red Bull Ragnarok is based in the Uvdal Skisenter. The venue is about 125 miles (200 km) northwest of Oslo, 250 miles (400 km) northeast of Stavanger, and 180 miles (290 km) east of Bergen.

The competition was named after Ragnarök which, according to Norse mythology, is the final fight between the forces of good and evil and a challenging test for human endurance. Red Bull Ragnarok is aimed to reveal snowkite heroes who will complete the course and win.

Hardangervidda is a mountain plateau in central Norway, one of the most scenic sites in the country. It is the largest plateau of its kind in Europe, covering Buskerud, Hordaland and Telemark counties. Due to the Alpine climate, the place stays cold year-round. It is home to one of Norway's largest glaciers—Hardangerjøkulen.
