Hummingbirds in Alaska 2025
When it comes to hummingbirds, Alaska has a little something to surprise you with
Best time: mid-March–mid-June
Hummingbirds aren’t really common in Alaska because of the state’s cold climate. As a result, only one hummingbird species is considered common for the area—the rufous hummers. Other species, like costa’s and anna’s, casually migrate to southeastern and south-central Alaska.
The migration usually starts in March-April. As always, males arrive one-two weeks before the rest of the crowd. Females and little hummers come to the destination after males, and the birds stay within the territory until June. The season usually lasts for about three months, which isn’t long compared to other states. However, there are still some beautiful hummingbirds to witness around Alaska, so prepare your feeders!
