Come and celebrate the Chinese New Year at the Chinese Culture Center of Albuquerque. Oriental festivities feature all sorts of traditional performances—lion and dragon dances, girls with fans, and flag dances. The centre is the premier spot to welcome Lunar New Year and embrace all the vibrant traditions and customs of Chinese culture.

Celebration Events

The Lunar New Year Celebration at the Chinese Culture Center of Albuquerque is jam-packed with traditional performances, customs, vibrant dances, and costumes. One of its highlights, the Dance of the Dragon, is performed by ten people operating a 60-foot (18-m) Chinese dragon and is a truly mesmerizing scene! The dragon, traditionally made out of fabric and bamboo frames, dances with the help of a team, gliding fluidly through the air.

Besides the Dance of the Dragon, your pulse might speed up when you witness the Tai Chi, Kung Fu, and Chi Kung demonstrations, and the hearts will be beating in unison with the drumming artists. Traditional dances, performed by Albuquerque Chinese Folk Dance Ensemble, masks, and costumes add to the charm of the event and immerse you into Chinese culture in the heart of New Mexico. If you'd like to treat yourself to something delicious, food trucks are there to satisfy your every craving.

Schedule & Admission

The celebrations take place outside, rain or shine. This free, family-friendly event starts at about 1 pm and spans approximately an hour and a half until 2:30 pm. The event is completely free to attend.

The event unfolds at the heart of Chinese culture in Albuquerque, the Chinese Culture Center, located in Southeast Heights area of the city. The district is home to the University of New Mexico and boasts a vibrant cultural scene. Besides street parking, you can park your car near Laurel Circle Park or at any parking lots near Central Avenue.
