Lion dances, delicious food, and Chinese art in Tampa Bay

Tampa Bay boasts a truly international crowd, and Chinese New Year is widely marked in the area. The Chinese-American Association of Tampa Bay usually throws a considerable celebration downtown with Chinese dances, costumes, food, and various entertainment. Some festivities also take place at the Oceanic Oriental Market and nearby Blake High School.
The Lunar New Year celebration at Water Works Park (January 2025 TBA)
The Suncoast Association of Chinese Americans (SACA) organizes an exciting and vibrant Lunar New Year celebration at Water Works Park in Tampa. This annual event, which is free to attend, offers a rich cultural experience for visitors of all ages. Held from 11:30 am to 4 pm, the celebration includes an array of performances, including traditional Chinese dancing, Peking opera, and dramatic lion and dragon dances. Attendees can also enjoy martial arts demonstrations and music performed on traditional Chinese instruments.
In addition to the performances, the event features a variety of family-friendly activities. There are dedicated areas for children to enjoy, including a playground and a photo opportunity with a panda, which adds to the fun and excitement. The festival also includes an arts and crafts area where local vendors showcase Chinese-inspired creations, offering unique souvenirs for visitors. Numerous food vendors offer a wide selection of Asian cuisine, ranging from kabobs, meat buns, and noodles to Thai desserts and other delicious treats. With such a diverse range of food options, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Lunar New Year at Armature Work (February 2025 TBA)
The Lunar New Year celebration at Armature Works in Tampa features vibrant cultural performances. Attendees can enjoy traditional Dragon and Lion Dances, as well as the energetic beats of Taiko Drums, with performances happening on the West Lawn and moving across the property. In addition to the performances, local vendors Zukku Sushi, Ling’s Dumplings, and Han Hand Roll Bar will offer food specials and distribute Red Envelopes, giving attendees a chance to win gift cards and coupons. The event is free to attend, making it an accessible and festive way to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
