Fredericksburg Hot Air Balloon Festival 2024 in Texas
Balloons and polo are among the favorites at the huge networking and social event
Dates: December 28, 2024
Nestled in the heart of Texas Hill Country, the Fredericksburg Hot Air Balloon Festival is more than just a balloon spectacle—it's a curated day of unique experiences. Combining the charm of Hill Country views, thrilling activities, and culinary delights, this festival stands apart by offering a fusion of adventure, culture, and indulgence. From polo matches to safari tours and farm-to-table dining, attendees can check off multiple bucket list experiences in one vibrant, unforgettable day.
One of the most elegant Texas events, the festival is focused on ballooning, polo, and networking as its top priorities. The program also includes a gourmet dinner, helicopter rides, wine tastings and grape stomp, fashion, live music, a zoo, and other entertainment. Among the biggest highlights of the festival are hot air balloon rides and nighttime balloon glow rides. Both experiences are weather-dependent.
Polo Match
The festival kicks off with a polo match at the Fredericksburg Polo Club, where guests can immerse themselves in the high-energy “Sport of Kings.” For those inspired to try their hand, polo lessons with professionals are available. VIP attendees enjoy prime seating, paired with a farm-to-table dinner that combines fine dining with stunning ranch views.
Food lovers are in for a treat with a variety of dining options. The VIP farm-to-table dinner offers a gourmet experience, while general admission attendees can enjoy local flavors from food vendors. For a playful twist, there’s even a grape stomp where participants can channel their inner Lucille Ball.
Hot Air Balloons and Evening Glow
While this isn’t a mass balloon event, the festival offers intimate tethered hot air balloon rides and the magical sight of a nighttime Balloon Glow at dusk. Live music throughout the day enhances the festive atmosphere. Usually, up to four hot air balloons are present at the festival. Tickets don't include balloon rides or tethered rides. Tickets can be purchased at the Tethered Ride Tent Area.
Grapetown Vineyard and Safari Wine Tours
Held at the Grapetown Vineyard and Farm, the venue itself is an experience. Visitors can sip award-winning wines from one of the few full-bar wineries in Texas. Safari Wine Tours add an unexpected twist, featuring encounters with exotic animals such as zebra, reindeer, camels, blackbuck, rheas, alpacas, and goats. Guests can opt for behind-the-scenes access to explore this unique aspect of the property.
Wine tours are available from noon to 4 pm. Wine tasting plus a guided safari wine tour is $75. The tour starts at the Tasting Room of Grapetown Vineyard, across the street from the Historic Bankersmith Dance Hall and Saloon.
Exploring the Wine Trail
The Fredericksburg Wine Trail is an additional highlight for those who wish to extend their trip. Renowned for its excellent wineries, this trail offers a chance to explore the rich flavors and craftsmanship of Texas wines. Grapetown Vineyard is a must-visit stop along this route.
Whether it’s riding a balloon, watching polo, or sipping wine with a view of exotic animals, the Fredericksburg Hot Air Balloon Festival promises a day unlike any other. It’s an invitation to escape, indulge, and celebrate the best of Hill Country living.
