This five-day festival, which has been taking place since 1988, attracts thousands of spectators from across New Zealand and around the world. Schedule of Events

Balloons over Waikato kicks off with the Hamilton City Council Opening Fiesta, held at Hamilton Lake. The festival begins with the first take-off of dozens of hot air balloons at 7 am on each day of the event. Start your day on a high note by gathering the family to watch the balloons inflate and soar into the sky from Innes Common, Hamilton. Make the most of this magical week by getting up early to join in the excitement and witness the stunning display up close, all while enjoying the activities hosted by local partners at the site each morning.

Zuru Nightglow (March 22, 2025)

Don’t miss Hamilton’s biggest night out – The ZURU Nightglow! Taking place at Innes Common, Hamilton Lake, this exciting event starts at 4 pm and offers four hours of live entertainment on the main stage, carnival rides, delicious food, and much more. The highlight of the evening is the spectacular balloon glow, where balloons light up the night sky, followed by the breathtaking SkyCity Hamilton fireworks extravaganza. Admission is free, but the tickets need to be purchased in advance.

Ride Tickets

Balloon rides can be purchased year-round, except from July to September. The cost for an adult aged 13 years and up is $400, while a child aged 7 to 12 can enjoy the ride for $320.
