Festival Highlights

Since its inception in 1967, the Cooperstown Winter Carnival has been a cherished tradition, uniting locals and visitors in a celebration of the season. Each year, the festival evolves with the addition of exciting new events. This iconic New York tradition offers a mix of indoor and outdoor activities for all ages, with most events free to the public. This year's festivities embrace the whimsical and uplifting spirit of winter, creating a lively mid-season celebration filled with joy and community.

In 2025, the 57th Cooperstown Winter Carnival will begin on Thursday evening, January 30, and run through Sunday, February 2.

Hot Cocoa Kick-Off

On January 30, the Cooperstown Winter Carnival will kick off in style at the Otesaga Resort Hotel. Guests can start the evening with a steaming cup of hot chocolate and take in the stunning "Color the Night" fireworks display at 6 pm, all set against the beautiful backdrop of the Otesaga. Adding to the magic, there will be a special live performance to provide the perfect soundtrack for the night. Afterward, visitors can head over to J&D's Wagon Wheel for a lively Cooperstown Winter Carnival Trivia Night starting at 7 pm.

Activities

The four-day festival features a dynamic lineup of activities, including a rock climbing competition, wine tasting, a bowling tournament, winter karaoke, a snowglobe disco party, and open skating at Badger Park, along with various other events throughout the city. Visitors can also explore the town's renowned Farmers' Museum, which celebrates 19th-century life with attractions like a hand-carved carousel, captivating folk art, and picturesque lake views. Note that the museum is usually closed for winter except for special programs and events.

Blizzard Bash

The weekend wraps up with the highly anticipated return of the Cooperstown Winter Carnival's Blizzard Bash, a vibrant celebration marking the final day of the event. Open to all, this free, family-friendly gathering promises a day of fun, featuring games, face painting, a pie-eating contest, a bouncy house, a firepit with s'mores, and the chance to watch live ice carvings as frozen creations come to life.

To stay warm, guests can cozy up around a bonfire or warming station, while a DJ keeps the energy high with lively tunes. The day's highlight will be the mesmerizing Tesla Car Light Show. The Blizzard Bash takes place on Sunday, February 2, from 3 pm to 5 pm at the Doubleday Field Parking Lot.
