The picturesque village of Balsam Lake is located in Polk County, Wisconsin, not far from the border with Minnesota; about an hour away from Minneapolis. The village is known for its winter drag races on the frozen lake that attract many adrenaline-seeking fans from both states.
The annual WinterFest is held in Balsam Lake on the first weekend in February. The 4X4 Ice Drag Races are the main highlight of the festival. Other fun activities also include Balsam Lake Wisconsin Snowshoe Race, Ice Bowling, Minnow Races, Pond Hockey. and UTV Race. There's also plenty of food and entertainment on Main Street.
Fire and Ice Polar Plunge is definitely not for the faint-hearted! One of the most popular events of the festival takes place at the Beach, on Mill St. The proceeds benefit the local Fire Department.
