The city of Ely, located on the Vermilion Iron Range, in upper northeast Minnesota, is famous for its beautiful nature. Every February, Ely is celebrating all things winter with beautiful snow carvings in the park, an art walk, winter sports, great music, and food. The city, located north of Duluth, also offers sled dog rides, cross-country skiing, and other fun activities.
Snow Sculpting Competition, the Downtown Arts Fair, and the Ely ArtWalk are the main attractions of the festival. The art walk is meant to promote local artists' work, exhibiting it in the windows of downtown shops. Over 170 artists with 600 works of art and over 5o stores participate in the event annually. The downtown arts and crafts market provides more space where creators can demonstrate their works. Carver Jam is another annual favorite event that gathers people at the Ely Steak House for a musical “jam.” Visitors can eat, drink, and listen, or bring their own instruments and join the fun.
