The San Diego International Film Festival is the largest film event in the region, attracting lots of national and international celebrities every year. The festival is famous for its world premieres and studio releases. It also features great independent cinema, not to mention those glamorous parties with the filmmakers and actors. More than a hundred of the best films are selected for the San Diego International Film Festival from thousands of submissions by independent directors. You will have the opportunity to watch them before the official release and enjoy after-screening discussions, which provide a deep understanding of the creative process.

Opening Night (October 16, 2024)

The opening night features a film screening and a cocktail party. Held at the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park, the event annually draws in the lead players of independent filmmaking, as well as film buffs wishing to dive deeper into the cinema industry. At the pre-reception at 5:30 pm, attendees can enjoy exquisite cuisine and delicious cocktails. This is a chance to mingle and meet passionate people in the field. The film screening kicks off at 7 pm and is followed by an afterparty. Tickets to the opening night cost $75.

In-Person Screenings (October 17-20, 2024)

From Thursday until Sunday, sit back and enjoy the best of independent feature films, documentaries, short-length movies, and premiers. The three days of screenings will be held in the AMC UTC 14 cinema in the Westfield UTC shopping center. After the film, attendees have a chance to unwind and interact with other enthusiasts. Ticket to one screening costs $25. If you'd like an exclusive experience, consider purchasing a $25 to a Fest Lounge, which grants you access to one day of panels, beverages, and food items.

Culinary Cinema (October 20, 2024)

As a culmination of the whirlwind of events during the San Diego International Film Festival, the Culinary Cinema event features a fusion of filmmaking and delightful cuisine. Capital One Café will be the host of the pre-reception party, where attendees get to enjoy coffee and desserts. The film choice for the day is also culinary-themed and is screened at the AMC UTC 14 cinema. At the tasting event after the screening, visitors may enjoy delectable dishes prepared by experienced chefs from the San Diego area. Beverages include wine, a welcome addition to the dishes. The screening is set to begin at 10:30 and 11:30 am, with the food event immediately after.

Other Events

If you're still up for some adventure and amazing connections, the San Diego International Film Festival hosts several other functions during its run. On October 18th, visit Friday Night Party with a Purpose, followed by a Saturday part on October 19th.
