Stockholm Film Festival 2024

One of Europe's leading film festivals

Dates: November 6–17, 2024

Over 12 thrilling days, the Stockholm International Film Festival offers a chance to experience the world's most exciting films and meet actors from around the globe. As one of Europe's premier film festivals, it creates an inspiring environment for filmmakers and audiences to connect. Since David Lynch's 'Wild at Heart' opened the inaugural festival in 1990, the event has consistently rolled out the red carpet for some of cinema's greatest directors and actors.

Events

The Stockholm International Film Festival will feature hundreds of film premieres from around the world. This year's festivities include a variety of Red Carpet screenings and parties such as the Opening Party, Mid-Way Event, Nikon + Peroni After Party, and the Closing Party. Attendees can also enjoy mixers, panel discussions, Industry Days, and Face2Face conversations with filmmakers and actors, offering a golden opportunity to engage with the creators behind this year's major premieres.

2024 Edition

The Netflix series *The Helicopter Heist* will kick off the 2024 Stockholm International Film Festival with its world premiere on November 15. This exclusive Red Carpet event will feature the first two one-hour episodes on the big screen. Attendees will also enjoy an intimate Face2Face session with Daniél Espinosa and Ronnie Sandahl, the creators behind this autumn’s most anticipated TV series.

Awards

At the Stockholm International Film Festival, two key awards stand out: the Bronze Horse and the Aluminium Horse. The Bronze Horse, weighing 7.3 kg (16 lbs), is the world’s heaviest film award and honors winners in major categories such as Best Film, Best Documentary, and the Stockholm Lifetime Achievement, Visionary, and Achievement Awards. The Aluminium Horse is awarded for categories including Best Director, Best Debut, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and acting awards. Other notable awards include the SkyShowtime Rising Star Award for promising actors, the 1 km film prize for emerging short film directors, and the Audience Award, determined by festival-goers.

At the Stockholm International Film Festival, the Stockholm Industry Days offer a dynamic platform for filmmakers and film professionals. This segment of the festival features several full days of workshops, panel discussions, seminars, and networking events, creating a vibrant and inspiring environment for industry connections and creative exchange.

Visitor Reviews

The rove.me team chatted with people who attended the Stockholm Film Festival in past years. We inquired about the festival’s organization, comfort level, and overall experience. We also wanted to know if they’d recommend visiting the Stockholm Film Festival.

"I enjoyed the event a lot! I attended Stockholm Film Festival for the first time in 2017, so it was great to be back after 6 years," says Marcelina from Stockholm, who went to the festival twice in 2023 with her friends. Marcelina pointed out the main advantages of the Stockholm Film Festival: a "wide variety of films, everything from big productions to short indie films, multiple locations in old cinema theatres around the city, which contributes to the great cinematic atmosphere." She also can't think of anything that was organized badly! "I would definitely recommend this festival to others and I'm looking forward to attending this year's SFF as well!"
