Festival De Cannes is world's most famous and prestigious film festival. This event annually draws the greatest professionals of the film industry to the beautiful French Riviera, and some of the best films of the year are screened there. The two most important parts of the Official Selection of the Festival are Competition and Un Certain Regard.
Aside from these big sections, the Official Selection includes Special Screenings, Midnight Screenings, Cannes Classics, and Out of Competition films. The festival also emphasises discovering new talent and developing the "Cannes Short Film" demonstrates so. Though the Cannes Film Festival is an invitation-only event, there are screenings around the city like the one at Espace Miramar or at La Malmaison that are accessible to anyone and free.
Also, classic films are shown for free on the beach right next to the Palais de Festivals, where the main festival events are held every night except the first and last nights of the festival.
