2024 Program
The Adelaide Film Festival 2024 will kick off with the world premiere of The Correspondent on opening night, Wednesday, October 23. The Opening Weekend Gala on Friday, October 25, will feature the Cannes prize-winning film Emilia Pérez, starring Selena Gomez. Also highlighted will be Anora, director Sean Baker’s reimagining of the classic romantic comedy Pretty Woman, and With or Without You, a new film by writer and director Kelly Schilling.
Awards
The Adelaide Film Festival presents several notable awards: the Feature Fiction Award and Feature Documentary Award recognize excellence in their respective categories. The Audience Awards allow festival-goers to vote for their favorite films, including the Audience Award for Short Film Prize. The Change Award highlights innovative contributions to the industry, while The Don Dunstan Award honors an individual with a significant impact on Australian screen culture. Additionally, The Bettison & James Award provides $50,000 annually to recognize a lifetime of exemplary contributions by an individual in any field.

The Adelaide Film Festival takes place across various venues in Adelaide, including The Piccadilly Cinema, Palace Nova Eastend Cinema, Capri Theatre, The Mercury Cinema, Odeon Star Semaphore Cinema, and Samstag Museum of Art. Attendees can use the free City Connector bus for a hop-on, hop-off service connecting the city and North Adelaide, as well as popular attractions, shopping, dining, and key destinations. Parking is available at UPark.

History of Adelaide Film Festival
The Adelaide International Film Festival, initially held from 1959 to 1980, was revived in 2003 with a focus on local film industry growth and international competition. Known as the BigPond Adelaide Film Festival until 2011, it now operates annually. In 2024, it partnered with Cannes’ Marché du Film to showcase local projects and support South Australian filmmakers.
