Every May, the city of Mount Gambier in South Australia hosts Generations In Jazz (GIJ). The annual weekend jazz festival attracts many aspiring performers from Australia and New Zealand. The event features an array of concerts held in the giant tent. Overall, about 5200 music students perform each year at Generations in Jazz.

Held since 1987, Generations in Jazz Festival takes place in the world's largest modular tent, which is about 210 feet (64 m) wide, 275 feet (84 m) long, and 82 feet (25 m) high. The tent is big enough to accommodate 11,000 seats.

The festival's past lineups included James Morrison, Ross Irwin, James Muller, Daryl Somers, Wycliffe Gordon, Graeme Lyall, eff Clayton, Gordon Goodwin, and Big Phat Band. In addition to professional musicians, the festival features the popular Big Band Competition for secondary school big bands from around Australia and New Zealand, with the main award worth $7000.
