Every year in the energetic Australian city of Perth, festival-goers come together for the enthralling Perth International Jazz Festival. The event takes place at the Octagon Theatre, which has disabled access and is non-smoking. The festival's schedule includes top-notch international performers, which charm audiences with their lyrical melodies and improvisational prowess.

Music Lineup

Since its inception in 2013, the Perth International Jazz Festival has always showcased an impressive selection of artists spanning a variety of genres. From contemporary and traditional jazz, blues, and swing to electronic, folk, and improvised music, the lineup will certainly impress any music lover. This year's edition features such performers as James Chapman Six, Lachlan Glover Trio, Steve Hensby Band, The Vampires, The Troublemakers, The Fix, Austin Salisbury Trio, Holly Forster, and many others.

Festival Program

Spanning over more than a week in late October-early November and over a weekend in November, the Perth International Jazz Festival is filled to the brim with numerous concerts and performances, all taking place in different venues. The festivities kick off on October 25th with a PIJF Launch at Brookfield Place, a free event that requires reservations. During this massive concert, nine artists play across seven venues, each showcasing their talents and skills. Another opening party is set to take place in QV1 Plaza on October 25th. Other events include Jazz Picnic in the Park, Jazz in the Garden, and Jazz in the Square.

Jazz Parade in Hyde Park (November 2, 2024)

During the Jazz Picnic in the Park, you have an opportunity to join in on the fun and play with other musicians during the Jazz Parade. Set to take place on November 2nd in Hyde Park, the parade involves hundreds of people gathering together and playing the classics of New Orleans jazz. All participants are required to bring their own instruments, which they can play acoustically and can move around with. The musicians gather at noon near the park's stage. Some of the songs to be played at this year's parade include "Second Line," "Down by the Riverside," "A Closer Walk with Thee," and "Oh When the Saints."

Beyond the music, the festival offers a mouthwatering variety of food options, from delicious street food vendors to fine dining establishments. Thus, visitors can enjoy not only the sights and sounds but also the flavors of this unique event. Most of the festival venues have a menu, each with its own impressive set of dishes.

Schedule of Events

The events generally take place later in the day, with concerts starting at 5-6 pm or even at 7-9 pm. Some outdoor events, like Jazz Brunch, Jazz in the Garden, and Jazz Picnic in the Park, begin earlier in the day, at 9 am and 12 pm, respectively.

Tickets

While some events offer free admission with prior reservations, others require tickets. The cost of tickets depends on the concert, performer, and venue. The cost varies around $30 to $150. Some concerts have a set cost of $60.

The performances of the Perth International Jazz Festival span across different venues throughout the city of Perth and its suburbs. Concerts take place both indoors and outdoors, with major venues being Hyde Park, QV1 Plaza, Brookfield Place Precinct, Yagan Square, The Rechabite, and Print Hall.
