2024 Program

In 2024, the opening concert of Sani Festival on July 6 features the world-famous tenor Plácido Domingo, renowned as one of the most influential singing actors in the history of opera. He will share the stage with Christina Poulitsi, the stunning soprano from Athens, a Greek-French singer Giorgos Perris, and the State Orchestra of Thessaloniki under the direction of conductor Jordi Bernàcer.

On July 13th, the public can hear an American jazz singer and songwriter Madeleine Peyroux, who will present her new album "Let's Walk". On July 20, the Welsh superstar Tom Jones will perform his timeless and newer hits. On July 27, the festival pays tribute to one of the most important Greek composers Mimi Plessas. The concert features Stefanos Korkolis, Dimitris Bassis and Sofia Manousaki. On August 3, the festival hosts Scottish singer Emeli Sandé, known for her R&B and soul melodies. The final Sani Festival performance on August 10 will feature legendary Gipsy Kings, fronted by Tonino Baliardo.

Festival History

The first Sani Festival took place over three days in 1992. During three decades, the festival featured over 300 concerts, with premier performers like Cesaria Evora, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kenny Barron, Ahmad Jamal, Tito Puente, Milva, Hank Jones, Ray Brown, Charlie Haden, Cassandra Wilson, Lila Downs, Lee Konitz, Michel Legrand, Paul Bley, Charles Lloyd, Tord Gustavsen, Lizz Wright, Joss Stone, Daniel Hope, Yaron Herman, Youn Sun Nah, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Brad Mehldau, Esbjorn Svensson, Milton Nascimento, Peter Greenaway, Branford Marsalis, Richard Galliano, Alison Moyet, Nikos Papazoglou, Eleni Karaindrou, George Dalaras, and many others. Over the years, the program evolved, encompassing various genres and reaching out further globally to showcase the best international performers.
