Rock am Ring and Rock im Park are two simultaneous rock festivals. While Rock am Ring takes place at the Nurburgring race track, Rock im Park takes place at the Zeppelinfeld in Nürburg. Both of them are usually regarded as one event with almost identical lineup. It is considered to be the largest annual music festival in Germany and one of the largest in the world. In 2007 the attendance of the festivals was over 150,000 people.
Planned as a one-time festival during new Nurburgring race track presentation in 1985, it was so successful that it was decided to turn it into an annual event. In 1988, after a 2-year hiatus, the festival returned with a new concept: both well-known artists and the lesser known bands were invited to perform on the stage. Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rammstein and Thirty Seconds to Mars were among the headliners.
