Since its creation in 1967, the Montreux Jazz Festival has been a unique event in the realm of music, held each summer in Switzerland on the shores of Lake Geneva. Originally purely a jazz festival, the event grew dramatically in scale, and nowadays, music lovers will be spoilt for choice since the lineup offers every genre under the sun.
Music Lineup
Nina Simone, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Marvin Gaye, Prince, Leonard Cohen, David Bowie, and Stevie Wonder are only a few great artists who performed at the stages of the festival. This year, the lineup features Jon Batiste, Lauren Spencer Smith, James Arthur, Mahalia, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, Dionne Warwick, Tyla, Paloma Faith, Lenny Kravitz, Rag'n'Bone Man, Loreen, and many others. Dylan Gossett, Leila, Good Neighbours, Eva May, Jamila, and other talented performers are set to take the free concert stage.
Entertainment Program
There is a choice of free concerts as well as ticketed performances, live music cruises on the lake, international music competitions, various workshops, and much more. More than 250,000 visitors hit the favored destination every summer, as the event is guaranteed to deliver toe-tapping good times.
Tickets
The ticket price for paid concerts varies depending on the day. It generally ranges between 88 Swiss Francs and 158 Swiss Francs. Besides paid concerts, almost 80% of the festival is completely free, with musical performances, workshops and dance parties.
Location & Schedule
The concerts take place on several stages. Ticketed performances unfold at Place du Marché, the doors to which open at 6 pm, and Casino Barrière Montreux, which opens at 7:30 pm. Lisztomania Club at the Mona Hotel hosts free concerts, letting visitors in at 8:30 pm. The Swiss Park is home to Super Bock Stage, which operates from 12 pm until midnight Sunday through Thursday, and until 2 am Friday through Saturday. Ipanema night club is another venue for free concerts, which operates from 6 pm until 2 am Monday through Wednesday, 6 pm to 4 am Thursday through Friday, 4 pm until 4 am on Saturday, and 4 pm until 2 am on Sunday.
