If you like movies, don’t miss the occasion to attend one of the island's most highbrow events—Madeira Nature Film Festival. The festival held in luxurious Reid’s Palace Hotel and Municipal Theater of Funchal attracts many foreign film directors as well as local intellectuals. The main theme of the event is the preservation of pristine nature, as it is one of the main problems for the island. At this festival, filmmakers don’t compete for a prize, as each delegate receives the ‘Laurissilva Ambassador’ award in recognition of their work which is supposed to raise awareness of Madeira’s endemic Laurissilva forest.
