Programming

The Fantasia International Film Festival showcases a diverse lineup celebrating imaginative cinema from Asia, Europe, and the Americas. From powerful personal visions to international crowd-pleasers rarely seen in North America, Fantasia presents a dazzling array of films. The 28th edition, running from July 18 to August 4, opens with "Bookworm," directed by Ant Timpson. Canadian filmmaker Vincenzo Natali, renowned for "Cube," will be honored with a special Trailblazer Award, accompanied by a screening of the film in a new 4K restoration.

Fantasia's flagship section, Cheval Noir, awards winners with the festival's mascot statuette, a majestic black pegasus. Alongside Cheval Noir, the festival features other sections such as New Flesh, Séquences, Camera Lucida, and the Satoshi Kon Prize. At the conclusion of the event, audiences can engage in a variety of activities. Each year, Fantasia offers masterclasses, special screenings, world and American premieres, press conferences, and opportunities to meet actors and directors.

The Fantasia International Film Festival is uniquely hosted across two indoor venues at Concordia University, with numerous events scattered among cafes, restaurants, and karaoke bars throughout. Renowned for its laid-back atmosphere, the festival embraces openness with no VIP areas, allowing world-famous directors and actors to mingle freely with attendees. History of Fantasia Film Festival

Since 1996, the Fantasia International Film Festival has emerged as North America's premier genre film event, celebrated for its diverse programming that spans imaginative cinema from Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Some of the numerous guests in past editions of Fantasia have included Robert Pattinson, Ben & Josh Safdie, Guillermo del Toro, Mark Hamill, Takashi Miike, Sam Elliott, Tony Todd, Danny Masterson, David Bordwell, David Arquette, Jaume Balagueró, Jay Baruchel, Michael J. Bassett, Michael Biehn, Don Bluth, Kim Bodnia, Darren Lynn Bousman, and many others. By 2016, the Fantasia International Film Festival had already attracted an annual audience exceeding 100,000 viewers.
