Even if you are not a fan of horse races, visiting Del Mar Race Track is a bucket list activity in San Diego. Located about 30 km north of the city, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club racetrack is located in the town of Del Mar on the coast of the Pacific ocean. With a capacity of 44,000 people, it is the second largest horse-racing track on the West Coast after Santa Anita Park. The slogan of this racing track built in 1937 is "Where The Turf Meets The Surf", and it truly is blessed with the perfect location.

In the 1940s Del Mar served as a summer playground for many Hollywood big names, and by the 1960s it became one of the premier racetracks in the country. In 1991, it hosted its greatest race - the $1,000,000 Grade I Pacific Classic Stakes.

One of the major events at Del Mar is The Opening Day with glamorous hats contests and parties. It happens every year in mid-July and the Del Mar Racing Season continues from mid-July into early September. But apart from that, the racetrack hosts many other events like concerts and shows.
