Starting from March the ‘Hipodromo Argentino’ becomes the centre of spectacular horse racing competitions locally named "carreras de caballos." Gran Premio Nacional is the most prestigious event held in mid-November. It was founded in 1884 and is also known as "Argentine Derby". Besides the races themselves, Gran Premio Nacional event offers a plenty of trackside entertainment for the whole family, including a gastronomic fair, live shows, and also celebrity spotting. So if you attend the event, dress appropriately not to feel embarrased—hats are not essential for ladies, but for gentlemen a classy jumper draped over the shoulders is a must.

Other events that take place in Hipodromo de Palermo between March and November include Palermo Gold Championship that continues from March through May; Copa Bullrich ie extended to June; whereas July marks the beginning of Championships Palermo de Oro Verde that lasts well into September. The most prominent events include Gran Premio República held in May, Gran Premio Polla de Potrillos y Potrancas taking place in September, Gran Premio Selección—the highlight of October, and the finally Gran Premio Nacional summons the best figures of the year in November.
