Horse racing competitions are a cherished tradition of the island.

The Champ de Mars Racecourse first opened its doors in 1812 and since then was playing an enormous role in the life of Mauritians, attracting tens of thousands of people each weekend during the racing season, from March to early December. Races are accompanied by Mauritian music and dance shows, making it an incredible fusion of local traditions.
