Angola Balloons Aloft 2024 in Indiana

Every summer, dozens of hot air balloons fill the skies over Steuben County in Indiana. The main attractions of the annual Angola Balloons Aloft are massive balloon launches from the lawn near Angola High School. The festival also features a classic car show, a kids' fun zone, educational displays, 18 food vendors, and helicopter rides. Admission to the festival is free. For seating, the public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Special Shapes

Kids will certainly be excited to see many special-shaped balloons. Get ready to cheer for Ellie the Elephant, Yellow Bird and Puddy Cat, Smiley, Cynthia Seal, Tom Cat and Terry Mouse, as they are soaring to the skies.

Car Show

The classic car show will take place at Angola High School from 8:30 to 10 am on July 13. The show, which is free for participants and doesn't require pre-registration, features a 60-mile (96-km) cruise through Steuben County, starting at 10 am. Cars are expected to return to the school grounds by 3:15 pm.

Helicopter Rides

Helicopter rides are available during Angola Balloons Aloft on a first come, first served basis. Intrepid Helicopters offer rides between 4 and 7 pm on Friday and between 10 am and 7 pm on Saturday at Angola High School. The rides are $50 per person. A helicopter carries three passengers and must have two passengers to take a flight. There might be lines, so plan to come early.

2024 Schedule

The schedule of the Angola Balloons Aloft starts with the Friday evening Fun Flight at 7 pm with special-shaped balloons. After dark, the fun continues with Hot Air Balloon Illumination. Usually, about 20 balloons are participating. Attendees can also enjoy the Antique Tractor Show from 4 pm, free archery tag, food vendors, and a kids' zone.

The Saturday Competition Flight takes place at 7 am. The lift-off is followed by a Classic Car Show at 8:30 am, an Antique Tractor Show as well as a Juggling and Stunt show at 11 am, and a Sky FX Kite Show at noon. Entertainment in the afternoon includes Strongman Jon Bruney at 1 pm, Sky FX Kite Show at 2 and 4 pm, Soarin’ Hawk Raptor Rehab Demo at 2 pm, Juggling and Stunt Show at 3 pm, and Meet and Greet with the Balloon Pilots at 4:30 pm. Another Competition Flight takes place at 7 pm. The famous Balloon Glow takes place near the high school at about 9:15 pm.
