History of the Festival
In 1974, Prince Rainier III of Monaco, a passionate circus enthusiast, founded the Festival International du Cirque de Monte-Carlo to promote traditional circus arts and support circus families. Since then, it has become one of the world's most prestigious circus events, drawing large crowds and being broadcast to a global audience. The Prince's love for the circus was passed down to his daughter, Princess Stéphanie, who became President of the festival in 2005.
