Winterfest transforms downtown Fairhaven into a magical place full of glimmering festive lights, good people, and joy. Сelebration occurs annually between Thanksgiving and Christmas and features iconic Christmas tree lighting and Father Christmas appearance, as well as some local traditions. The highlights include free old-fashioned carriage rides, the holiday market at the Fairhaven Village Green, Bellingham Circus Guild performances, and finally Fa-La-La caroling competitions. For the detailed schedule of events, check the "External Resources" section below.
Most of the festival-goers are either locals or visitors from the nearby cities of Lynden, Blaine, and Seattle. No wonder that Fairhaven is one of Washington's best-kept secrets. The beautiful village is located on the south side of Bellingham, with the mountains to the east, and the bay to the west. Fairhaven was founded in the 1800s and was one of the first settlements along the bay. So besides Winterfest events, take your time to discover the village's rich history and cultural heritage. Take in red-brick Victorian houses mixed with contemporary buildings that resemble 19th-century architecture. Lastly, browse locally-owned shops, visit art galleries, and have a drink in one of the cocktail bars.
