The Tri-City Water Follies, featuring the Columbia Cup and STCU Over the River Air Show, promises a thrilling experience along the banks of the Columbia River. As one of the largest and most popular shoreline festivals in Eastern Washington, it attracts over 50,000 attendees annually. This festival, now in its 58th year, offers high-speed boat racing and mesmerizing aerial displays that captivate audiences of all ages.
STCU Over the River Air Show
One of the highlights of the event is the STCU Over the River Air Show, showcasing an array of breathtaking aerial performances. From the United States Air Force F-35A Lightning II demonstration to the graceful maneuvers of the Heritage Flight P-51 Mustang Valhalla, spectators will be enthralled by a showcase of aviation excellence. The air show will grace the skies from 11 am to 1 pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Columbia Cup Unlimited Hydroplane Racing
The Columbia Cup, a cornerstone event of the festival, will feature Unlimited Hydroplanes racing along the Columbia River. Propelled by turbine engines with nearly 3,000 horsepower, these cutting-edge boats achieve staggering speeds of up to 200 miles per hour. The sheer power and velocity of these hydroplanes promise an adrenaline-fueled spectacle from 10 am to 4:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Vintage Hydroplane Exhibition
The vintage hydroplane exhibition offers a glimpse into the past. Showcasing classic Rolls-Royce-powered unlimited hydroplanes that once dominated the sport from 1973 to 1981, it provides a unique opportunity to witness the elegance and power of these historic vessels as they grace the waters once more.
2.5-Liter Hydroplane Racing
Adding to the excitement, the 2.5-liter class hydroplanes will engage in heart-pounding races exceeding 100 mph, scheduled from 1:30 pm to 4 pm each day. These "S" class boats, equipped with 145 horsepower marine-based Ford engines, offer thrilling side-by-side racing that underscores driving skill and encourages driver development.
Additional Activities
Beyond the main attractions, visitors can enjoy radio-controlled hydroplane races, showcasing scaled-down replicas racing at the Family Fishing Pond in Columbia Park. The Grand Prix America Hydros will also make a thunderous appearance, delivering close competitive racing with roaring engines and thrilling deck-to-deck action.

The festival kicks off on Friday, July 26, with the park opening at 8 am and a full day of activities, including all driver autograph session, hydroplane heats, and vintage driving school. Saturday and Sunday will feature a similar lineup of events, culminating in the grand finals of the hydroplane races on Sunday afternoon.
