The Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) is one of the largest military air shows in the world. It's usually held over the third weekend in July at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, England. RIAT attracts more than 150,000 visitors over two days and features plenty of modern and classic aircraft.

The showground is open for 12 hours for the air show enthusiasts, making it possible for everyone to enjoy RIAT attractions. For instance, you can visit the Vintage Village and the RAF Experience to view various exhibits or head to the Techno Zone. Also, there's the Activity Zone for the youngest ones, who want to burn off a bit of energy.

2024 Highlights

In 2024, RIAT will host an aircraft from the Serbian Armed Forces for the first time—a new Airbus C295MW aircraft will be showcased in static displays. Other highlights include Canadian heavyweight CC-130J Hercules, CC-177 Globemaster, and CC-150 Polaris, which will be on display at the eastern end of the static line. The Royal Air Force showcases an array of training aircraft for static display: Tutor, Prefect, Texan, Hawk, Phenom, and Juno & Jupiter. In 2024, RIAT will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the F-16 first flight. Static displays will feature a line-up of F-16s from around the world, and the public will witness impressive flying demonstrations of the legendary aircraft.

How to get to RIAT

You can get to Royal International Air Tattoo by train, coach, or your own vehicle. The best rail station is Swindon, which has rail services from Oxford, London, Wales, and the west. Also, you can take a coach tour right to RIAT. If you decide to get by car, good news— parking is free of charge. Just follow local signposting, and you'll get to the world's greatest air show with ease.

Tickets for the Air Tattoo

You have to purchase tickets for the Air Tattoo in advance since there are no sales at the gates. You can get them on the official website, listed in the External Resources below. The general admission starts from £45. For the additional price, RIAT offers Family Enclosure, Viewing Village Garden, Aviation Club, First Class Lounge, and much more. For £48, attendees can upgrade to the Viewing Village Grandstand, with reserved seating, catering options, luggage facilities, and dedicated bathrooms. The Aviation Club package for £195 offers a light breakfast, morning tea or coffee, a two-course lunch, and afternoon tea. as well as access to the on-base Guest Car Park.
