An annual celebration of the customs and culture of the Renaissance era, the Southern Indiana Renaissance Faire is held in Charlestown, Indiana. The fair is divided into two thematic parts, held on two separate weekends: the Southern Indiana Renaissance Faire Fantasy Weekend and the Southern Indiana Renaissance Faire Pirate Weekend. Both take place at Birdsell Castle in Charlestown and offer plenty of things to join in. So, let’s see what each of them is about!
Southern Indiana Renaissance Faire Fantasy Weekend
Visitors can relive the era of knights, princesses, and wizards at the Southern Indiana Renaissance Faire Fantasy Weekend. Live performances, like jousting, sword fighting, and musical events, are what fills the weekend. Tourists can also browse the artisan market, which offers one-of-a-kind handmade items, such as ceramics, apparel, and jewelry. In addition to meeting fairytale characters, like fairies and dragons, visitors may engage in other games and activities, including archery and face painting. Adult ticket prices start at $15; children’s entrance is even cheaper.
Southern Indiana Renaissance Faire Pirate Weekend
Pirate Weekend at the Southern Indiana Renaissance Faire is an exciting sea adventure. Guests are welcome to participate in live entertainment options, such as interactive shows, sword fighting, and pirate-themed music concerts. Youngsters can participate in activities and treasure hunts while meeting pirates, like Blackbeard and Captain Jack Sparrow. Basically, this is the same Renaissance festival, but with more of a focus on the pirate theme.
Vendors selling food and drinks with a range of Renaissance-inspired cuisine, including turkey legs, mead, and ale, are present on both weekends. Visitors are advised to put on medieval or pirate-themed costume for a complete Middle-Ages experience. Thus, remember to book your accommodation in advance and have a wonderful time!
