About Folsom
The state capital of California, Sacramento, is located about 20 miles east of the city of Folsom in Northern California. Named for Joseph Libbey Folsom, a pivotal figure in its construction, the city's history dates back to the mid-19th century California Gold Rush era. The area is home to Folsom Lake, a picturesque reservoir on the American River that is popular for hiking, boating, and fishing. The well-preserved structures, like boutiques, eateries, galleries, and museums in Folsom's Historic District honor the city's Gold Rush past. Notably, Folsom State Prison became well-known worldwide following Johnny Cash's well-known 1968 appearance. The city also offers a bunch of opportunities for outdoor recreation, such as touring Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park and bicycling along the American River Bike Trail.
