Sailing in Key West & Florida Keys 2025
Turquoise waters, subtropical weather, and only coral-reef in the continental USA
Best time: January–April
Florida Keys archipelago is stretched for about 120 miles (193 km) and warmed by the Gulf Stream. Being a true paradise itself, sailing around it is an almost dream-like experience. That's why the opportunities to sail and explore here are unlimited.
The climate of the Florida Keys makes it possible for year-round sailing but January through April offers the strongest wind and the best sailing. June through November is the Atlantic hurricane season, so if you are sailing during it, have a well-thought-out hurricane plan. You need to be extra alert anyway as tropical storms often come and go. Monitor the weather closely no matter what time of year you visit.
Generally, the Florida Keys has unlimited sailing destinations. The ultimate are Islamorada, Big Pine Key, Key Largo, and Key West. You can book a tour to relax or a lesson to learn how to moderate winds and ocean conditions.
