The oldest and largest street festival in New York
Dates: September 29, 2024
The Atlantic Antic is held annually on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn, between 4th Avenue and Hicks Street. One of NYC’s most massive festivities occupies ten blocks of downtown Brooklyn, about 1 mile, covering ten blocks of the Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, and Boerum Hill neighborhoods. The fair is packed with local food vendors, artists, craft breweries, and shops.
Entertainment
The festival features a performance stage and a lot of live music. Overall, about 12 stages of street entertainment are scattered through Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn Heights, and Downtown Brooklyn. Performers include Middle Eastern musicians, belly dancers, family circus, R&B musicians, kid’s dance performances, rock bands, and drummers. The festival features a kids' zone with family-friendly activities, like face painting, storytelling, puppets, interactive games, free goodies, arts & crafts, and pony rides. Street activities include a mini squash court, a cardboard maze, and a teen bands stage at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Nevins Street.
Festival History
Drawn by Brooklyn-based food, crafts, and music, the fair has taken place every fall in September since 1974. It was mentioned in the Beastie Boys' 1989 song "Shadrach" in 1989. The Atlantic Antic is currently run and produced by the Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation (AALDC). The event attracts about 600 vendors and a million attendees.
Hours
Atlantic Antic runs from noon to 6 pm for one day only, rain or shine.
