The historical reenactment of the nomination of the Grand Duke of Amalfi takes place in Amalfi and Atrani on the last day of August leading to the Byzantine New Year celebration on the first day of September. The parade and reconstruction of the Duke's Ordination Ceremony take place during these two days and the atmosphere of going back in time widely flows around the area.

These days, the atmosphere of the Middle Ages, with pages, ladies, and knights, recreates historical events, reminding visitors of the city's past political greatness. On August 31 and September 1, Amalfi and Atrani celebrated the Byzantine New Year, which marked the beginning of the financial and legal year in the era of the Eastern Empire, of which Amalfi was a peripheral autonomy.
