Tibetan New Years features unique food. There are a few traditional dishes that are served during the celebration period. Each day you can taste one important and unique dish. Most of them include vegetables and fruits and are sweet. You have to try the traditional cake Khapse and an alcoholic drink Chang as well.
But one of the most interesting is soup, called Guthuk. The main ingredients are meat, rice, sweet potatoes, wheat, yak cheese, peas, green peppers, vermicelli, and radishes. But there are also some surprises inside. Locals put various items which have a symbolic meaning. Small things, like stones, chilly peppers, wool, charcoal, and coins are put into small dumpling in this soup. These items are used to predict the future for whoever finds it!
