Bacalhau in Portugal 2025

Portuguese boast to have the cod recipe for each day of the year. But the most famous is salted cod or bacalhau. The recipe appeared on non-freeze days when cod had to be transported by sailing ships from the ​North Atlantic. Dried and liberally salted fish had a chance to be preserved during transportation. Bacalhau is used for numerous dishes of Portuguese cuisine throughout the year but is the most popular on Christmas table.
