Peneda Geres is the only national park in the country on the Spanish border. It is the mix of regenerating oak forests, plateau peat bogs, green valleys, and 300-million-year-old granite heights. Here you can meet wolves, foxes, bears, and dears. However, the most famous inhabitants of the park are Garrano ponies. The best time for hiking Peneda Geres national park are April and May because flowers are in full bloom at this time. Choose the Homem River Valley for a notable ramble through rare remnants of ancient native forest.
