Truckee Tahoe Air Show & Family Festival promises a day filled with excitement and wonder, set against the stunning backdrop of the Sierra Mountains. Hosted at the Truckee Tahoe Airport, only 13 miles (21 km) from the northern shores of marvelous Lake Tahoe, this event is a highlight for aviation enthusiasts and families alike.

From the moment the gates open at 9 am, attendees can immerse themselves in a world of aviation wonder. The program features world-class aerobatics, breathtaking performances, static displays, as well as vendors, and loads of family-friendly entertainment, like live music, arts and crafts, stilt walkers, and puppet shows. The festivities for the whole family run up to 4 pm.

Air Performances

The 2024 edition of the air show boasts an impressive lineup of performers, including renowned aerobatic pilots like Stephen Christopher and Todd Rudberg of Undaunted Airshows, Tom Larkin with his Mini Jet Air Show, and the return of crowd favorites Bob Freeman and Vicky Benzing.

Static Displays

Visitors can also look forward to static displays featuring a variety of aircraft, from modern jets to historic warbirds. The displays offer a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with the marvels of aviation history such as the F-5, Marine MV-22 Osprey, CareFlite helicopter, L19 Birddog, and more.

Family-Friendly Fun

The Family Festival, produced by volunteers from Truckee’s KidZone Museum, offers a range of activities for families to enjoy together. From live music and puppet shows to arts and crafts stations and carnival games, there's something for everyone to delight in. The event also features a STEM Expo, providing interactive learning experiences focused on science, technology, engineering, and math, while speaker presentations offer insights into the world of aviation from experts like Brigadier General Clarence “Bud” Anderson and Navy Commander Colette Lazenka.

Free Airplane Rides for Kids

Truckee's EAA Chapter 1073 offers free airplane rides for kids aged 8-17, giving them a unique flying experience. Parents can sign up their children at the airport's EAA building on Saturday, for flights scheduled the next day. Since 1994, the chapter has flown over 5,000 young participants, providing each with a logbook and certificate. EAA pilots will give free rides, showcasing their dedication to youth and aviation.

Admission and Parking

One of the standout features of the Truckee Tahoe Air Show & Family Festival is its commitment to accessibility. Admission to the event is entirely free, as is parking, however, some activities may require a fee, namely face painting or military aircraft rides. Attendees can register online to receive a Mobile Pass for event information and a chance to win exciting prizes, including airplane rides over the stunning Lake Tahoe. For those environmentally conscious, biking, carpooling, or utilizing public transportation options like TART are encouraged.

VIP Experience

The VIP Hospitality Tent offers exclusive amenities, including catered lunch, beverages, shaded seating, and opportunities to mingle with performers, for those seeking a premium experience. Tickets for the VIP Hospitality Tent can be purchased online, sales start on Monday, June 5, but availability is limited, so early booking is recommended.

Aviation Heritage

Refounded in 2012, after a 16-year hiatus, the Truckee Tahoe Air Show has grown into a beloved annual tradition, proudly supported by the volunteers, sponsors, and Truckee Tahoe Airport District. The event aims to provide an interactive, educational, and enjoyable experience for the entire community, with all proceeds benefiting local youth organizations, programs, and scholarships. Over the years, the air show has earned accolades for its excellence in emergency response and dedication to building the future of aviation.
