Lake Tahoe Marathon is held every October offering a weekend full of running and fun. There are more than 20 events to choose from, and the main highlight is Lake Tahoe Marathon, held at one of the most scenic vacation destinations in North America. Besides, on Friday and Saturday, there are few more marathons and half marathons: the Lakeside Marathon, the Nevada Half Marathon, and the Cal-Neva Marathon & Carnelian Bay Half Marathon.
For the toughest runners, there is the Saturday Night Midnight Express 72 Mile Ultra race that starts and ends at Lakeside Beach. Participants run 72 mi counter-clockwise around Lake Tahoe. One more option is a four-person 72-mi ultra relay race also encircling Lake Tahoe.
The Lake Tahoe Marathon starts on Sunday in Homewood and ends in South Lake Tahoe on Lakeside Beach. The marathon begins at 8 a.m. at Meadow Rd. & H89. The last shuttle bus departs at 6:20 a.m. The finish line is at Lakeside Beach, about six blocks from the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel.
Before the races, runners can socialize, eat pizza and drink craft beer on Friday on the Stateline Lake Tahoe AleWorX. There is also the Saturday Expo at The Landing Resort & Spa at 4104 Lakeshore Blvd., South Lake Tahoe. Runners can pick up race numbers and t-shirts there.
